Irregular Preterite
Ser and Ir share the same preterite forms. Rely on context to determine the meaning of each sentence

Some verbs have irregular stems that share the same set of irregular preterite tense endings
Irregular Endings: e imos iste o ieron *If an irregular stem ends in "j", the "i" is dropped from the third person plural ending decir - dij dije dijimos dijiste dijo dijeron |
Irregular Stems: andar - anduv - walked
caber – cup – to fit *conducir – conduj – to drive, to conduct, to lead *decir – dij – to say, to tell estar – estuv – was hacer – hic(z) – made, did #poder – pud – managed to poner – pus – put #querer – quis – tried #saber – sup – found out #tener – tuv – received/had *traer – traj – to bring venir – vin – came #some verbs have diferent meaning when used in the preterite tense

er, and ir verbs that have a vowel preceding the ending have accents on all “i’s” in the endings and exchange the “i” in the third person endings for a “y”
caer(se) – to fall (down
caí caímos caíste cayó cayeron |
oír – to hear
oí oímos oíste oyó oyeron |
verbs that follow this pattern are leer, traer, and creer among others
